Comprehensive CFD electrostatic precipitators modelling

An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is a device in which the retention of particulate matter emissions, result of any type of combustion, can be done. In it, an electrode is connected to a high voltage power source, creating a corona discharge and a strong electric field which deviate the particles.

The main goal of this project is the development of a model which accounts for all the physical phenomena that takes place inside an electrostatic precipitator. Specifically, the coupling between electrical magnitudes, gas phase and particle motion has been carefully modeled. Therefore the model can be use to perform simulations of any complex ESP geometry.

Thanks to this model, which is fully embedded in Ansys-Fluent software, the particulate matter collection efficiency can be estimated, as well as the current intensity output of the ESP.
